By: Tami Jo Kuehn
Ogilvie, MN (July 9) – Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway welcomed the Steffes Street Stock Tour and Rebel Midwest Modified Saturday night for some WISSOTA Dirt Race Series action. 111 drivers signed in for the night of racing, and it was Dexton Koch, Justin Vogel, Wyatt Boyum and Mac Johnston who went home as winners.
The WISSOTA Super Stocks were the first race of the night with Russell Kostreba and Joel Collins on the front row. The drivers were nearly four wide for the lead when the green dropped and Collins took the point. Ryan Kostreba slid into the second point and dove low to challenge Collins for first. A quick caution slowed the drivers and as race resumed, Dexton Koch drove between Collins and Ryan Kostreba for the lead. The Super Stocks had a handful cautions but Dexton Koch pulled away from the field and went on to take the win. Jeremy Nelson, Ryan Kostreba, Dustin Nelson and Jeff Frey grabbed top points.
The WISSOTA Street Stocks were next for the night and Braden Brauer claimed the early lead. The Street Stocks also battled multiple cautions throughout their race event, but Brauer continued to hold the lead. As the final restart reset the field, Brauer held the top point, however Jeff Nowak, Justin Vogel and Kyle Anderson were ready to make their move. The three racers ganged up on Brauer and the drivers raced four wide in the curves. With five laps to go, Brauer, Vogel, Nowak and Anderson remained close to one another and it was anyone’s race to win. Vogel nosed ahead of the pack as Nowak, Anderson and Brauer raced three wide. With the white flag raised, Nowak raced to Vogel’s door and pulled ahead of the #10 as they raced down the back chute. As the top four rounded the final curve, Nowak and Vogel shot down the straight-away and the margin of difference between the top two finishers was .037 seconds. Justin Vogel got it done and took the win with Jeff Nowak, Braden Brauer, Kyle Anderson and Kyle Genett as the top finishers.
Ashton Schulte and Wyatt Boyum brought the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds to the green for next race and at the end of lap one, Wyatt Boyum claimed the top point. Brennan Gave made his way into second and dove low on track surface. Gave made the pass for first however Boyum remained glued to his rear. After a quick caution, Gave had a slight lead, but Boyum and Kennedy Swan were on his rear. Swan worked the low groove and just as she pulled into the top point, the yellow appeared. Gave, Swan and Boyum were three wide in turn four when the race resumed and Boyum reclaimed the lead position. Swan kept pressure on Boyum as she continued to work the low groove and Boyum ran high. After another caution, Cody Lee was now in third and raced three wide with Boyum and Swan. Boyum continued to hold the top point, and with no more cautions to slow the field, Wyatt Boyum took the checkers. Remaining top points went to Kennedy Swan, Cody Lee, David Swearingen and Justin Froemming.
The WISSOTA Hornets wrapped up the nights race events with John Aderman and Jesse Turnvall on the front row. Drivers were three wide throughout the field as the race began and Aderman edged out the lead. Joseph Wilber slid into the second point and cruised into the lead point while Mac Johnston, who started eighth, raced to the inside of Wilber. A quick caution slowed the Hornets, but Wilber brought them back to green with Johnston and Aderman in tow. Johnston didn’t waste any time and cruised past Wilber for first. Mac Johnston continued to drive away from the field and took the checkers with Joseph Wilber, Jamie Ammerman, John Aderman and Justin Barsness in the top five points.
Next week will be a busy one at Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway with four nights of race action across five nights. The Mod Wars featuring the USMTS drivers versus the WISSOTA Modifieds returns to the Big O with races on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, Mod Fours and Hornets will also be on the agenda for each night of Mod Wars. Then on Monday July 18th, the XR Northern Storm will kick off their tour at Ogilvie with WISSOTA Late Models, Modifieds and Midwest Modifieds racing for increased pay. It’s going to be a busy week at the Ogilvie Raceway, so mark your calendars and plan to visit Ogilvie a night or four in the upcoming week.
