Mother Nature Threw Multiple Curveballs at Ogilvie Saturday Night, and Against All Odds, the Race Program was Successfully Completed!

Ogilvie, MN (July 6) – Saturday night was an exciting night at Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway for a multitude of reasons. Four classes of cars were on hand for some WISSOTA Dirt Race Action, and between mother nature, the lightning strike, great racing and fireworks in the pouring rain, it was a night for all to remember.

WISSOTA Street Stocks were first on the program with Keith Tourville and Kyle Howland showing the way. An immediate caution reset the field, but when the green reappeared, Howland, Levi Randt and Jeff Ekdahl were three-wide for second as Tourville pulled away from his competitors. Randt and Ekdahl battled for second while three drivers challenged Howland for fourth. Tourville continued to lead as the Streets experienced another caution, but now he had Ekdahl and Randt back on his rear. Randt and Ekdahl kept close and chased the #111 of Tourville. With the checkers waving, Ekdahl gave one final push to get the win, however Keith Tourville grabbed it. Following post-race tech, Jeff Ekdahl was awarded the win with Levi Randt, Andrew Hanson, Tommy Pogones and Kyle Hanson claiming top points.

Kris Peterson and Ryan Kostreba brought the WISSOTA Super Stocks around the Big O for the next feature, and when the green waved, Peterson claimed the lead. Kostreba, James Trantina and Austin Niemeyer raced three-wide for second and were nearly four-wide with Peterson for first. Kostreba emerged from the curve with the lead and drove away. With a handful of laps in the books, a caution was triggered, and drivers were reset with Kostreba in command. When the green waved, Trantina and Koch kept after Kostreba as the yellow waved for debris. When the race resumed, Kostreba, Koch, Trantina and Shane Sabraski were nearly four-wide in the curve with Kostreba holding the point. Just then, a bolt of lightning struck the grounds, and the race went red as a weather delay took place to confirm all were ok within the facility. After all was cleared, the racers retook the green with Koch and Sabraski right on Kostreba’s rear. Sabraski, Koch and Trantina kept close to Kostreba the remaining laps, and although they gave it their best, Ryan Kostreba held the lead and earned the win. Points two through five went to Dexton Koch, Shane Sabraski, James Trantina and Dustin Nelson.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were next on the schedule with Daniel Bjonfald and Charles Bistodeau on row one. As soon as the green waved, rows one and two were three-wide with drivers battling for points. Mark Froehlich took the top position with James Trantina in second and three drivers fighting for third. Trantina made his way alongside Froehlich for first and snagged the point as Cole Boston, who started eighth, made his way to second. Boston looked ahead at Trantina as a caution occurred and put him at Trantina’s rear. Trantina brought the drivers back to green, and Boston cruised by the leader on the high groove. Boston was glued to the high side the remaining laps and put space between him and his competitors until the checkers waved. Cole Boston earned his first Ogilvie Raceway feature win with James Trantina, Landyn Randt, Ryan Putnam and Cole Elton as the top five drivers.

Travis Schulte and Eric Lamm brought the WISSOTA Modifieds on the track for the final feature of the night as rain quickly approached from the south. Schulte pulled away with the early lead while Dave Cain challenged Lamm for second. Cain took the point with Jeremy Nelson (4), Shane Sabraski and Lamm as the top five. Cain chased after Schulte, and after some laps, he caught the bumper of the #3T. Cain dove to Schulte’s door, and after a quick battle, secured the top point with just four laps to go. Dave Cain stretched his lead the final laps and took the win in his #2C Modified. Jeremy Nelson (4), Travis Schulte, Ryan Gierke and Shane Sabraski rounded out the top five.

Next week is an exciting week at Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway as the USMTS make their stop by the facility for another year of Mod Wars! Mod Wars will feature the USMTS Drivers battling the WISSOTA Modifieds in three complete shows on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Each night will also feature the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds and Mod Fours. This is a fun and exciting event featuring the best Mods from across the United States, mark your calendars and plan to spend three nights at the Big O.
