Shane Sabraski Continues His Winning Weekend by Snagging Two Trophies Saturday at Wagamon's Ogilvie Raceway!

By: Tami Jo Kuehn

Ogilvie, MN (July 27) – It was a hot and steamy afternoon as fans and drivers arrived at Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway for a night of WISSOTA Dirt Track Race Action, and the racing was nearly as hot as the weather. The FastLane Motorsports Super Stock Series was on hand for their make-up event due rain earlier in the season and 31 Supers joined the night’s event. With six total classes in action, all features were completed with just one caution flag being waved and Cole Boston, Robert Holtquist, Payson Patrin and Jody Bellefeuille took home trophies, while Shane Sabraski took two.

Ben Lewis claimed the early lead when the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds kicked off the night’s features. Ashley Boyum, Ryan Putnam and William Moelter raced three-wide for second until Putnam dropped from the fight. Boyum and Moelter continued to move forward and took the doors of Lewis. They were three-wide for first until Lewis fell to third and Boyum and Moelter remained glued to one another. Cole Boston then came through traffic, took second and looked at Moelter who was in the top point. Boston ran low on the track, but then shot to the high groove to slide by the leader. Boston’s slider was a success as he took the lead and separated himself from the field. Drivers began to settle into points the closing laps as Cole Boston took the win. Remaining top points were awarded to William Moelter, Ashley Boyum, David Swearingen and Ryan Putnam.

It was now time for the WISSOTA Super Stocks feature as 26 of the best Supers lined up to battle. Shane Sabraski and Dylan Nelson brought the drivers to the line, and Sabraski grabbed the early lead as the green dropped. Dexton Koch took the second point, but Nelson moved to Koch’s door. Nelson and Koch kept close to Sabraski as the top three went three-wide in the curve. Nelson exited the curve in first, however Sabraski didn’t let Nelson get away. Koch worked Sabraski for second which allowed Nelson to break away. The top drivers found themselves in slower traffic as the only caution of the night was triggered for a driver blowing a motor. The drivers were sorted and realigned with Nelson in command, however Sabraski and Koch were on his rear. Drivers sped off when the green waved and Sabraski dove low to Nelson’s door. Nelson and Sabraski were nose to nose until Sabraski pulled ahead and Nelson found company in Koch and Dave Mass. Koch, Mass and Nelson were nearly three-wide for second as Mass continued to move to Sabraski’s door. Mass raced low, Sabraski ran high, and a few times, Nelson tried to split the difference as they fought for first. With just two laps to go, the top drivers had slower traffic in their view, however Shane Sabraski didn’t budge as the #7A took his first win of the night. Dylan Nelson, Dexton Koch, Matthew Larson and Austin Niemeyer grabbed points two through five.

Maeghan Milz and Robert Holtquist were door to door at the line when the WISSOTA Mod Fours went green, and after a couple of laps, Holtquist took the point. Holtquist sped away from the field as Blake Hawker moved aside Milz. They battled side by side for the runner up position as Tyler Larson closed in. Hawker, Milz and Larson were nearly three-wide when Hawker ran away with second. Larson and Milz remained glued to one another the remainder of the race as the checkers waved. Robert Holtquist snagged the win with Blake Hawker, Tyler Larson, Maeghan Milz and Doug Frederick rounding out the top five.

The WISSOTA Late Models rolled onto the track surface with Dylan Kromschroeder and Don Shaw on the first row. As the green waved, Shane Sabraski moved from fourth to first before the first lap was scored, and immediately sped away with the point. Shaw held onto the second point with Josh Zimpel in third. The Late Models cruised the surface of the Big O and laps passed quickly with Sabraski preparing to lap drivers. Sabraski and other top drivers began to weave their way around slower cars as the race came to a close. Shane Sabraski took the checkers and earned his second win of the night with Don Shaw, Dave Mass, Josh Zimpel and Dylan Kromschroeder as the finishers.

Payson Patrin, Tony Jenson and Jenna Hagemann battled three-wide for first as the green waved for the WISSOTA Hornet feature. After a short battle, Patrin claimed the lead with Jenson and Hagemann in tow. The top three drivers kept close but had a big lead over the remaining cars of Randy Jacoboski and Emily Acciari. The drivers remained in that exact order the remaining laps and Payson Patrin was awarded the win.

The WISSOTA Modifieds closed out the night’s program with Eric Lamm and Travis Schulte on row one. Schulte and Lamm sped off as the green waved as Jody Bellefeuille ran the middle groove and made the battle nearly three-wide. Lamm dropped from the battle as Schulte and Bellefeuille continued on until Bellefeuille snagged the lead. Shane Sabraski made his way to second while Clayton Wagamon challenged Schulte for third. Wagamon worked the low groove and battled Sabraski for second, but Sabraski held the position. With a slower driver mixing in, Wagamon was able to retake the point, but Sabraski didn’t back down. Just three laps remained with Bellefeuille in command, however Wagamon and Sabraski were within an arm’s reach of the leader. As the checkers were in sight, Wagamon raced along the track wall, shot aside the leader, and then in one final effort, the #14W dropped a groove and gave one final push at the finish line. Jody Bellefeuille however, crossed the line first and pulled off the win with a slim margin of 0.121 over his competition. Clayton Wagamon settled for second with Shane Sabraski, Landon Atkinson and Jeremy Nelson as the top finishers.

Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway will take next Saturday off, however, we’ll be back in action twice the following week. The XR Northern Storm series will stop by the raceway on Tuesday August 6th with the Structural Buildings WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series in action alongside the Modifieds and Midwest Modifieds for night two of their weeklong series. Saturday night of that same week we will once again be racing, and it will be our infamous Bike Giveaway night, so plan to bring the kids to the Raceway for a night of great race action, and maybe take home a bike.
