Smooth Track Surface, Great Race Action, and once again, Ogilvie Raceway Beats Mother Nature by Completing the Race Night Before the Rain Fell.

By: Tami Jo Kuehn

Ogilvie, MN (July 20) – Saturday night was Blaze Credit Union night at Wagamon’s Ogilvie, and once again, Mother Nature was knocking on the door as the race night progressed. With 86 cars in attendance, the track staff pushed the show through and completed the evening of WISSOTA Dirt Track Race Action before the rain began to fall. The track itself was victorious along with Clayton Wagamon, Austin Niemeyer, Ashely Boyum, Tyler Larson, Jeff Ekdahl and Tony Jensen who all went home with hardware.

Keith Tourville and Jim Gullikson led the WISSOTA Street Stocks to green for the night’s first feature race. Tourville grabbed the early lead with Gullikson and Kyle Howland as the top three. Gullikson tracked down Tourville for the lead while Jeff Ekdahl raced to Howland’s door. Ekdahl took the third point and looked ahead at Gullikson and Tourville. The top three drivers remained close as Ekdahl moved to the high groove and slid to Tourville’s door. Ekdahl made the pass for first and slowly stretched his lead over the remaining laps. The Streeters kicked off the night with a caution free feature and the win went to Jeff Ekdahl. Keith Tourville, Jim Gullikson, Charlie Sheik and Tommy Pogones rounded out the top five drivers.

As the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds began their feature, Kaden Woodie took first while Ashley Boyum, Jamie Davis and William Moelter ran three-wide for second. The three drivers moved forward to challenge Woodie, and they were four-wide going into turn one. Boyum emerged as the leader, however Moelter raced back to her door. Moelter pulled away in first as David Swearingen made his way through the field. Swearingen charged to Boyum’s side and they closed in on Moelter. Slower traffic was in sight as Boyum caught Moelter. They were three-wide multiple times in traffic as Swearingen made his appearance again. Moelter, Boyum and Swearingen raced hard for the lead, swapping points, with lapped cars mixed in. As Moelter and Swearingen rounded the curve, contact occurred, and their cars were hooked. Boyum shot into the lead as Moelter and Swearingen broke free of one another and attempted to keep the race green, however the yellow was triggered. With just two laps to go, Ashley Boyum brought the boys back to green, and she held the point to take the win. Remaining top points went to William Moelter, David Swearingen, Joey Jensen and Cole Boston.

Jordan Fischer grabbed the immediate lead as the WISSOTA Mod Four feature began while Tyler Larson and Maeghan Milz battled for second. Milz and Larson moved aside Fischer and the drivers were three-wide in the track’s curve. Milz emerged with the lead and Larson held second. Larson kept after Milz’ #60 and soon made his move as he took the top point. Laps quickly passed and the checkers waved with Tyler Larson getting the win followed by Maeghan Milz, Blake Hawker, Rowan Tramm and Josh Madson as the top five and only finishers.

Jason Hobbs, Jeremy Nelson and Austin Niemeyer raced three-wide the final curve of the opening lap in the WISSOTA Super Stock feature, and Niemeyer nosed out the lead. J. Nelson held second with Dustin Nelson in third as Dexton Koch, who started 7th, made his way into top points. Koch snagged third, then second, and with only two laps to go, Koch chased after Niemeyer. Although Koch got close, Austin Niemeyer held his line and took the checkers. Dexton Koch settled for second with Jeremy Nelson, Dustin Nelson and Cole Chernosky rounding out the top points.

The WISSOTA Modifieds took the green with Clayton Wagamon speeding away with the lead. Cole Chernosky claimed second with Jeremy Nelson and Zach Benson to his rear. Chernosky ran solid in his position while Nelson and Benson were nose to nose for third. By this point, the race was half over and Wagamon stretched his lead to a four-second advantage. However, a caution then occurred which reset the field and erased Wagamon’s impressive lead. Chernosky and Nelson were on Wagamon’s rear as the race resumed, and when the green waved, Wagamon still sped off. Jeremy Nelson grabbed second with Zach Benson, Dave Cain and Cole Chernosky in points two through five as the dust settled from the restart. The racers remained in those positions the remaining laps, and when the checkers waved, Clayton Wagamon took the win.

The WISSOTA Hornets wrapped up the night of WISSOTA racing with Jacob Bayerl and Tony Jenson on row one. Bayerl took the early lead with Tony Jenson, Payson Patrin and Randy Jacoboski three wide for second. Jenson claimed the point, and then took the lead when a driver came to a stop in turn three and the yellow waved. The Hornets were back in action after some fuel was burned from the track surface, and Jenson remained in command. Tony Jenson led the remaining laps and took the win with Jenna Hagemann, Payson Patrin, Randy Jacoboski and Jacob Bayerl in top points.

Next Saturday, the FastLane Motorsports Super Stock Series will stop by the Raceway for their make-up race night from June’s rainout. Street Stocks will have the night off however Late Models will join us for the night. Racing will resume at 6:30pm.
